By (author): Ciro, Carmelo
In this charming story, Carmelo Ciro vividly evokes his childhood in Partanna, a small and remote Sicilian mountain town overlooking Greek temples and the Mediterranean Sea. It is the 1950s – a time when Sicily was a rigid, closed, and male-dominated society. In an ancient setting of great natural beauty, inhabited by unforgettable townspeople and ruled by myth and ritual, Carmelo comes of age, and finds his identity.
Carmelo grew up in Sicily and came to America at the age of sixteen. In 1977 he graduated from Montclair State University. Carmelo taught World Languages at High School and College levels for over 30 years. He resides in New Jersey with his wife and three children.
